Education for Young People aged 16-18

Education for Young People aged 16-18It is essential for the prosperity of our city and the wellbeing of our communities that young people get a good start in life and access good quality training and education and work experience. For most young people that will mean attending our excellent local colleges and schools. Some young people find it difficult to progress in these institutions and for this group of young people we are always trying to develop better educational and training programmes that will allow them to develop.

Details on courses we are currently enrolling for are available here.

FC United are offering accredited education courses for young people, aged 16 to 18 years, in Sport and Active Leisure that will be taught by qualified and experienced tutors along with opportunities to gain valuable experience working as part of a fans-owned football club with an award-winning community programme, and there are still a number of places available for young people to get involved.

The education courses will be offered at three levels to allow learners to choose the level that is appropriate for them depending on previous academic achievement and courses will be delivered at Broadhurst Park.

  • Level One Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure
  • Level Two Diploma in Sport and Active Leisure
  • BTEC Level Three Diploma in Sport
  • English and Maths skills will also be offered to learners who are yet to achieve a Level 2 (GCSE Grade C & above or equivalent) in these subject areas.

Learners that enrol on a course with FC United will also be given the opportunity to choose an additional strand to follow, based on their own development needs. The three strands available to learners include Community Coaching alongside FCUM Community Team, Boxing and Fitness to be delivered by Collyhurst and Moston Lads Club, and Football Academy delivered by FC United's Academy Coaching Team.

FC United's Community and Education Manager, Andy Cheshire described the course as a fantastic opportunity for local young people to engage in an academic programme which will be accredited through Hopwood Hall College and be delivered at our new ground in Broadhurst Park. The recruitment for the next intake of 2016 is already underway so if you feel this is the right choice of path please contact the office for more information.

Additional benefits for the participants could include overseas youth exchanges, assisting event management at FC United matches and Moston and Collyhurst Boxing Club, art and media projects relating to the club, enterprise projects relating to the club and work experience placements at companies and organisations that sponsor the club.

If you are interested in enrolling on a full time education course with FC United of Manchester please contact Community Education Manager, Andy Cheshire, on 0161 769 2005 or andycheshire@fc-utd.co.uk
