Match Report
FC United of Manchester Reserves suffered a second defeat of the season, losing 2-0 to Stalybridge Celtic at Broadhurst Park. Sadly, once again it was a tale of dominance in possession for the team in red but with no end result.

FC United started brightly with a powerful shot from Harry Pratt hitting the bar and bouncing clear after five minutes. Two minutes later a Rico Gomes free kick from the corner of the penalty area was deflected for a corner, Sam O’Donnell’s resultant effort was saved; as was a Will Shawcross’ s effort from a Pratt cross soon after.

Stalybridge had two useful efforts midway through the half but apart from a Chris Hill drive at the end of a sweeping move and a chance that fell for Pratt inside the box, the tale of the rest of the half was one of balls played too slowly allowing the visitors offside tactics to do their job.

The early moments of the second half were dominated by Stalybridge as post and bar were rattled, Jacobs for the visitors could easily have completed a hat-trick.

A couple of substitutions helped FC back into the game. One of those Josiah Dass picked up a loose pass from the visitors and sped into the penalty area the cross was met by Pratt but his touch drifted wide.

Hill and Gomes had efforts drift wide as the home side dominated the middle period of the half. Unfortunately, when teams create without an end product there is a price to be paid as Stalybridge scored twice in the 76th and 82nd minutes. In between the goals, ex FC reserve Medi Bakinama presented the ball to Pratt who sidestepped the keeper but hit the post.

In overall summary, FC United had over 60% of the possession but fell to a defeat. With better luck Pratt could have had four goals, but then again so could Jacobs for the visitors.
