Match Report
AFC FYLDE YOUTH v FC UNITED of MANCHESTER YOUTH - Match postponed.

FC United of Manchester’s National League u19 Alliance away league fixture with AFC Fylde Youth was postponed in bizarre fashion on Wednesday afternoon as the two teams lined up just before the scheduled kick-off.

With AFC Fylde’s pitch at Kellamergh Park having been declared unfit, the Coasters had instead arranged to hire the main 3G pitch at Poolfoot Farm, Thornton (the training complex of near neighbours Fleetwood Town FC).

The two youth teams were about to kick-off, when Fleetwood Town’s officials came out onto the pitch to advise that the fixture would no longer be allowed to take place, due to an unresolved legal dispute between AFC Fylde and Fleetwood Town.

The dispute is understood to relate to the signing by Fleetwood last year of former AFC Fylde midfielder Dion Charles, whom AFC Fylde advise had signed a two year contract extension with them in 2015. Crucially, however, the Football Association apparently did not receive the contract extension, allowing Fleetwood to sign Charles on a free transfer at the end of the season.

AFC Fylde are understood to be looking for compensation from Fleetwood, hence the ongoing matter.
