Match Report
The FC United youth team showed a little more pride than last week but were still comprehensively put to the sword by a stronger, hungrier and more experienced Stalybridge Celtic at St Brides Field on Sunday.

The reds did start brightly, with Andy Graham shooting wide and Lee Hill hit the post after being put free by Kyle McDonagh in the first two minutes. Unfortunately after that the visitors dominated the game. In the fourth minute referee Pete Whitehead gave Stalybridge a free kick on the edge of the box for what he said was a push by an FC player, which if it did happen was comfortably inside and should have been a penalty. A direct shot scraped the top of the crossbar as it went over.

Soon afterwards FC did fall behind as a poor back pass left Joe Grantham with the ball on his goal line but at the outer limit of the penalty area. Rather than put the ball out for a throw which either he or the passer could easily have done, he chose to try and play his way out of trouble and failed. The ball, given away was crossed for Joe Heap to finish untroubled.

Stalybridge made it 2-0 after half an hour when a diagonal ball caught the back four asleep and two Stalybridge players ran beyond the defence. Matthew Chadwick was the player who took responsibility to fire home.

FC’s best chance of the half came a minute before the break when Dylan Maloney hit a rasping drive which produced the save of the day from Adam Spencer, however the last action of the half came when Adam Berrisford picked up a caution for an obstruction on Joel Bembo Lita.

In the second half things started to pick up as Ryan Lyons, playing right midfield, got to the goal line for the first time and crossed for Dylan Maloney to shoot home and pull one back. The reds could have equalised shortly afterwards when Kyle McDonagh saw an effort saved. Sadly in the 53rd minute Adam Berrisford chose to query a refereeing decision and picked up a second caution for dissent and was sent off. Lee Hill was unfortunate to be substituted as Jordan Dainty was sent on to try and help the team re-organise in defence. However it was not to be as Stalybridge went for the throat and FC made error after error. A further six goals were scored without reply, including a hat trick for Joel Bembo Lita which featured a penalty given for a reason no one on the touchline could see but was not overly disputed on the pitch. Perhaps it was not without connection to the first half decision.

Matthew Chadwick scored his second direct from a thirty yard free kick with Connor Hampson and Jimmy Parry completing the scoring.

The FC Youth Team have the chance to rediscover some of the early season pride and form with a County Cup tie against Duckinfield next Sunday, which will missed by most of you who will be hoping the First Team can fare better against today’s opponents in the FA Cup Third Qualifying Round at Gigg Lane.
