Match Report
In a hastily rearranged trip to Merseyside, the young reds came away empty handed. A second half penalty to Marine proving the decisive factor in a competitive but largely untidy game. In truth neither side did enough to deserve the win although FC had three penalty claims of their own all turned down.

Marine had the first chance in the second minute when a free kick was parried by Thomas Siwka but the Marine number 9 reacted quickly and was unfortunate to see his effort go wide. FC then started to dominate the game and created a number of shooting chances. Sadly none of them were on target apart from an early effort cleared off the Marine goal line with arms in close proximity to the ball, the defender was adjudged not to have handled. The best chance of the half came after 30 minutes when Gage Eme chased after a long clearance from Thomas and whilst he got to the ball before Tony Fanning in the Marine goal, it wasn’t by enough to get the ball into the net.

The second half saw few chances, the best of which came early on when, after a smart save by Thomas, Dylan Moloney put Gage through on goal. He rounded the keeper but unfortunately delayed his shot long enough for a Marine defender to get back and deflect the ball for a corner. Another couple of FC attacks came and went before. In the 58th minute, Marine were awarded a penalty when a cross back towards the edge of the box brushed an FC arm. No Marine player actually appealed but the referee was quick to point to the spot. Thomas Siwka got to the spot kick by Jamie Watkinson but was unable to keep it out.

Neither keeper was seriously troubled from then on although two tussles for possession which saw FC players on the floor were adjudged to be fair play, when looking like justified claims from the sidelines although neither were realistic goal scoring opportunities.

FC United of Manchester:
Thomas Siwka, Andy Graham, Davison Banda (Carl Fitton 84 mins), Ferre Edwards, Adam Berrisford, Josh Burke, Scott Cheetham, Dylan Moloney, Roshgar Mousa (Ryan Lyons 51 mins), Gage Eme, Jake Haslam (Luke Kolakowski 70 mins) Subs not used Joe Grantham, Paul McIntyre.
