Match Report
The Youth Team maintained their 100% record with a 5-1 win at the Lancaster club against a Morecambe side that provided stiff resistance in midfield but were undone with early goals in each half and two late presents. Lewis Lacy, Yousif Yousif, Jonathan Poizer, Mike Taylor and Andy Lee scoring for the reds with an unfortunate deflection providing the Morecambe reply.

Morecambe headed South determined to bring that record to a close and were quickest out of the blocks forcing a second minute corner, but failing to make anything of it. Indeed there were sizeable periods of the game where the visitors dominated possession. It has to be said that this was mostly in midfield as the reds midfield of Burgess, Smethurst, Poizer and Taylor were made to work hard throughout.

Despite that FC took the lead in the fourth minute, a corner on the left was cleared for another kick on the other side. Jonathan Poizer fired low into the box and debutant Jack Burgess was unlucky to hit the post, the rebound fell to Lewis Lacy who fired home.

It was 2-0 in the 20th minute as the reds swept forward through Josh Smethurst and Poizer before Yousif Yousif had only the keeper to beat, making no mistake. Poizer was unlucky not to turn from provider to poacher ten minutes later when he took the ball round the keeper but had had his shot cleared off the line.

For the remaining fifteen minutes of the first half Morecambe had most of the possession but had no end product to show for it. They did use the half time break to galvanise themselves for a second half assault to try and get back into the game. Unfortunately their defence read the wrong script as it was 3-0 with barely a minute gone. Smethurst threaded a pass between the two central defenders leaving either Yousif or Poizer to run at goal; Yousif looked to be offside but Poizer certainly wasn’t and the latter took control of the situation.

The reds could have scored more, with Poizer unlucky, heading a Blaine Biggs cross just wide. Unfortunately it was Morecambe who scored next with a deflected shot on the hour. They went on to have good possession for the next ten minutes as FC substitutions sought to regain control. Biggs was well found with a cross field pass from Kane Hughes. His shot fired across goal drifted just wide.

There were two goals in the last five minutes as the visitors defence switched off. Mike Taylor hit a Cantonaesque chip over Sean Johnson in goal who had chosen to present him with the opportunity with a careless pass. The fifth goal came just before the whistle and was entirely down to the persistence of Andy Lee. His run forward looked to have run out of steam as full back and defender seemed to have taken control. However the ball never was under control and Lee from a prone position having chased and harried was able to prod home.
