FC Women's friendly fire to sink Premier League Opponents

FC Women’s friendly fire to sink Premier League Opponents Another superb showing from FC’s Women who travelled to Women’s Premier League opponents Burton Albion, sitting two divisions higher than FC, in their second friendly of the pre season programme last Sunday.

The journey was very worthwhile as Luke and his staff look to gel an impressive squad for the forthcoming season and the team responded with an emphatic 11-1 victory.

United led 5-1 at the break and opened their account on 10 minutes after Chloe Wild drilled home a superb cross from Beth Tattersall. Impressive debutant Fran Sullivan made it two with a crafted curler into the top corner and good build up from the back resulted in Nicole Hatcliffe bagging FC’s third to bury a Kirsty Chambers cross at the near post.

On the half hour Tattersall burst down the right and crossed for Jess Battle to volley number 4 before Emily Hornsby nicked one back for the hosts finishing well from a corner on 33 minutes.
Two minutes later United restored their four goal cushion as Sullivan bagged her second and FC’s 5th of the half.

Both sides made changes after the break but if anything, United got stronger still with Hatcliffe firing across the keeper to score her second of the game just after the restart. Excellent interplay between Wild, Adora Yau, Sullivan and Rebecca Foster resulted in the superb Battle scoring her second and FC’s 7th and with the game an hour old United made it eight with Foster finding the top corner, firing an unstoppable effort from 20 yards.

Gemma Jackson held a Burton corner and launched United forward as Geraldine Sommer (Swiss Under 19 international and training with FC whilst in the UK for a few weeks) flicked the ball to the overlapping Abbie Carrington who crossed superbly for Tattersall to come off the back post and squeeze the ball home.

Double figures were achieved as Chloe Wild bagged her second and FC’s 10th on 83 minutes finishing well into the bottom corner and two minutes later, great tanicity and determination in front of goal saw Tattersall finish superbly through a crowd of players to wrap up the 11 goal haul in the Staffordshire sunshine.

Next Sunday (23rd ) the red’s currently have no game as Preston North End are now unable to fulfill the originally intended fixture, keep an eye on the website for a possible replacement fixture?

A week later (30th) Leeds United Ladies visit Broadhurst Park and if you can, get yourselves to our football ground and watch the revolution unfold. Thank You.
