On Tuesday 15th August ko 7.45pm, FC United travel to Southport in the National League North - Seating and Standing facilities are available.

FC United go into Tuesday’s match away at Southport needing to get some points on the board following three defeats from our opening games. Scott Kay is available for selection having served a 3 match ban carried over from last season, however Lewis Lacy still has one match of his suspension to go. Danny Brady is available having returned from his honeymoon, but Richie Baker is a doubt having suffered with an injury on Saturday.

On Saturday, FC United welcomed back midfielder James Hooper, who appeared 3 times for the reds last season on loan from Rochdale, scoring a vital away goal at Tamworth. Hooper, now aged 20, turned professional at Rochdale in April 2015. He scored 23 goals at youth team level in the 2014–15 season and was named as Rochdale’s youth team Player of the Season. He made his debut in the Football League on 24 November 2015.

After playing three times for FC and twice for Stockport whilst on loan from Rochdale last season, Hooper joined League Two side Carlisle where he made one appearance as a substitute against Luton. Hooper was released by Carlisle and joined FC United last week.

Our opposition on Tuesday is Southport, who were relegated from the National League last season. They have won all three of their opening games of the season against Boston United, Bradford PA and Leamington.

Association Football has been played in Southport since 1881. At the start of the 1905–06 season Southport, then known as Southport Central moved to its present home, Haig Avenue. In 1918, the club was renamed as Southport Vulcan – having been bought by the Vulcan Motor Company – becoming the first club to take a sponsor’s name. In 1921 the club, now named simply Southport, joined the Football League and became a founder member of the Third Division North.

In 1978 Southport was voted out of the Football League following three consecutive 23rd (out of 24) placed finishes, and was replaced by Wigan Athletic, and have remained in non-league ever since.

They became founder members of the new Conference North in 2004–05, and were the league’s first Champions, earning promotion back to the newly renamed Conference National. They were relegated back to the Conference North for the start of the 2007/08 season where they would finish in the play-off place for 2 consecutive seasons before finally winning automatic promotion at the end of the 2009/10.

Since then, they remained in the Conference where, apart from one season where they finished 7th, have been involved in a relegation battle, before finally getting relegated last season.

Last season Southport averaged crowds of 1,142.
