FC United Start New Season at Bower Fold

31 July 2011

FC United of Manchester will be playing its first home game at Staybridge Celtic's Bower Fold stadium this season.

The supporter-owned club has switched from its usual groundshare at Gigg Lane because landlord Bury FC has already got a game there - on the evening of Wednesday, August 17. So FC United will line up at Bower Fold against North Ferriby United in the Evo-Stik Premier League, at 7.45pm. And the club's top striker, Michael Norton, who lives in Stalybridge, is looking forward to kick off. "It adds something special for me to be able to play for FC United in my home town," said Michael, who scored 32 goals last season. "Our pre-season friendly matches have shown we've got a very promising squad for this season and our fans always create an amazing atmosphere - I'd say to anyone in the area they'd be welcome to come and have a look."

A tiler by day, Michael found himself in the media spotlight after scoring FC United's last-gasp, dramatic winner in the first round of the FA Cup v League One club Rochdale last season. "I've never known anything like that in my time playing football, it was just an incredible experience all round," said Michael, 30. "The goal put us through to face Brighton in round two, and we even took them to a replay as well as reaching the play-off final in the league. "We're determined to do even better this season! So any local support would be fantastic to cheer us on - we normally get around 2,000 fans at home games so it's great to be part of." FC United of Manchester will also play a home game v Marine at Bower Fold on Saturday, October 8 at 3pm when Bury FC will again be playing at Gigg Lane that day.

Admission for FC United games is pay on the gate - £8 for adults, £5 for over 60s and £2 for under 18s. The club is again running a "pay what you can afford" scheme for season tickets. ENDS
