Match Report
It was a day that saw the best of spring sunshine and some rain as bad as any as this winter has thrown at us. Liversedge arrived with just eleven players, one of those being manager Callum Morton. Abdou Bojang opened the scoring for Liversedge goals from Charlie Doyle, Cosmos Okeke Joe Power, Scott Cheetham and Jon Poizer saw the reds complete a 5-1 win.

FC United started at pace, creating six chances in the first ten minutes but without bringing a save from Danny King in the visitors’ goal. It was therefore against the run of play that Liversedge took the lead on 20 minutes. A neat exchange in the home penalty area was finished by Bojang. It was their first attack of this game but a 4-0 win at Ossett Albion had shown that they had the potential to pose problems when given the chance

That provided a wake up call for the reds who had the ball in the net three minutes later, Okeke finishing a Cheetham cross but ruled out by the referee’s offside call. Poizer had an effort turned out for a corner which despite being initially cleared was returned for Biansumba to see a shot saved. The equaliser did come two minutes later, a move involving Biansumba and Fowles found an overlapping full back Doyle who fired home between the keepers legs. A Doyle and Cheetham combination ten minutes later gave Okeke the chance two put FC into the lead; he did but King seemed unlucky not to keep his shot out.

This was in truth a lacklustre performance by the reds, having dominated possession and restricting Liversedge to just the one chance. The half time break saw Biansumba and Okeke replaced by Frank van Gils and Justin Johnson. This did liven things up briefly, FC United scored three second half goals in a five minute spell around the hour mark. Power made it 3-1, receiving the ball from Cheetham and firing home in to the far corner. Cheetham made it 4-1 with a shot from the edge of the box and Poizer rounding off the scoring, heading a Mike Taylor cross back beyond the Liversedge keeper.

FC continued to press and had more of the possession in the second half than the first. Unfortunately most of the second half was played in torrential rain, which with the game won did have an effect on the quality of play; Johnson and van Gils bringing saves from King late on provided the only real threat of more goals.
