Match Report
MANCHESTER METROPOLITAN UNIVERSITY 2 FC UNITED of MANCHESTER YOUTH 1

FC United Youth’s faint hopes of qualifying for the Football Conference Youth Alliance end-of-season national play-offs were more-or-less ended by this 2-1 away defeat against Manchester Metropolitan University on the Cumberland Sports Arena 3G on Friday afternoon.

FC United Youth had gotten off to a reasonable start, taking the lead on 4 minutes when Robson Buckley scored from the twelve yard spot after Cameron Horner had been tripped inside the penalty box.

But they never really kicked on from there, and it was no major surprise when Manchester Metropolitan University equalised on 21 minutes when Jack Baker latched on to a long free kick before placing the ball past Steve Whetham.

1-1 at half-time, FC United Youth did have the ball in the net on 61 minutes, but Steeve Eddy’s towering header was chalked off for an infringement inside the box.

And captain Nathan Chorlton was unlucky to see a deflected effort for FC United Youth tipped over the bar post by home ’keeper Callum Spencer on 65 minutes.

FC United’s Cameron Horner also went close on a number of occasions.

But the inability of the visitors to take their chances was to prove costly when MMU’s Jack Baker scored again on 70 minutes with a virtual carbon copy of his first goal, and try as they might, FC United Youth were unable to force their way back into the game, which ended 2-1 in favour of MMU.

FC United Youth’s next FCYA league game is a home fixture against Macclesfield Town Whites (Wednesday 24th February 2016 - K.O. 2.00 p.m.)
