Match Report
OLDHAM COLLEGE (ASHTON UNITED) MEN’s 1sts 4 HOPWOOD HALL COLLEGE (FC UNITED) 1

Oldham College (Ashton United) moved to the top of the ECFA North West Men’s Category 2B league with this hard-fought and well-deserved 4-1 home win against a depleted FC United’s academy team at the Failsworth Soccer Centre on Wednesday afternoon.

After a fiercely-contested first half, the home side took the lead on 45 minutes when Matt Wilkinson raced through the away defence before shooting past ’keeper Nathan Chorlton.

In the second minute of first half stoppage time, Oldham College added a second when Kade Howarth intercepted an underweight pass to net easily.

FC United’s academy team grabbed a lifeline in the third minute of first half stoppage time, when JACK WARD’s long hopeful free-kick wasn’t dealt with effectively by the home ’keeper, to make the interval score 2-1.

On 69 minutes, Jack Ward was unlucky to see a thunderous free-kick rebound off the crossbar, and worse was to follow for FC United’s academy team, as Oldham College raced up the other end of the pitch and Hassan Ali rolled the ball into an unguarded net.

And on 85 minutes, Jordan Bolland added a fourth to make sure of the final result.

Jack Ward and Steeve Eddy both picked up second yellow cards in the closing minutes, and there was to be no way back for FC United’s academy team.

The academy side will now have to wait three weeks until their next scheduled ECFA league game (an away fixture against Myerscough College Men’s 3rds (Friday 15th April 2016 - K.O. 2.00 p.m.)).
