FC's women kick off pre-season with a 1-0 victory over Crewe
FC’s Women kick off Pre season with 1-0 victory over Crewe
In 30 degrees under almost relentless sunshine and against an accomplished Crewe side from the Women’s Premier League, FC’s Women put in a tremendous shift to earn a fantastic 1-0 victory courtesy of a Chloe Wild strike just past the quarter hour, in their first pre season ‘friendly’ of the new season.

In a game bristling with intensity, unusual for early pre season, United started on the front foot and largely dominated midfield, creating the best early chances that culminated in Wild’s goal on 16 minutes. Both sides created chances throughout the encounter and credit goes to the defences and in particular goal keepers for keeping the score line as it remained.

United held firm in the heat as Crewe threatened a late equaliser and the manner of the victory, considering the quality of the opposition, coupled with a clean sheet will leave all involved well satisfied with the afternoon’s work.

Next Sunday (16th) the red’s travel to Staffordshire to face Burton Albion Ladies before an encounter with Preston NE away a week later then finishing July back at Broadhurst against Leeds Ladies FC. Your support is always appreciated.

Summary Report by Rob Fullen
FC Players of the game: Beth Tattersall – direct, effective wing play and tracked back well as full back cover as required. Abbie Carrington – superb left back performance often under extreme pressure and rarely bested by the Crewe forwards. b>Rebecca Foster – impressive debut; the mid fielder was calm, assured and creative in equal measure, all afternoon.
