FC United of Manchester Youth slumped to a heavy home defeat against Preston North End FC (Myerscough) Youth in Wednesday afternoon’s National League u19 Alliance Division ’J’ league fixture on the Broadhurst Park 3G.

It was combination of defensive mistakes by the home team and crisply taken goals by the away team that did for the Young Reds; Preston North End being exceptionally good value for their 8-2 win.

The visitors opened the scoring on just 18 minutes when GEORGE ACTON headed home from the edge of the area.

A fine save by home goalkeeper Sam Mills on stopped the same player from adding a second for Preston on 21 minutes.

On 39 minutes, FC United of Manchester snatched a spectacular equaliser. KANE STOCKLEY controlled a loose ball just outside the area before sending an unstoppable half-volley over the Preston ’keeper and into the net.

A poor clearance allowed the visitors to regain the lead on 45 minutes, scored by JACK ARROWSMITH, and in first half time added on, another defensive mix-up allowed LUCAS WEAVER to make it 1-3 to Preston.

The home side rallied briefly at the start of the second half; Max Lewens setting up XAVIER IWEGBU on 47 minutes who scooped the ball home to make it 2-3.

That, however, was as near as FC United got to getting back into the game.

On 54 minutes, Preston broke down the right, before the ball was crossed to WILL PITT who finished with aplomb.

On 62 minutes, it was 2-5. Stephen Adeniya conceded an unnecessary penalty, comfortably converted by KAYDN CRAVEN who sent Sam Mills the wrong way from the 12 yard spot.

On 74 minutes, the same player added a sixth, as KAYDN CRAVEN rifled home a low shot into the corner of the net from outside the area.

JAN PALINKAS (o.g.) was unlucky to get the last touch to a goalbound Preston effort on 86 minutes to make it 2-7 and SID BATTY rounded off the scoring for the visitors with goal number eight on 88 minutes.
