FC UNITED of MANCHESTER 2 RUNCORN LINNETS 0
Match report by Ben Hughes....

FC United defeated fellow supporter-owned side Runcorn Linnets at Broadhurst Park in front of a gate of 475.

Runcorn manager Michael Ellison will have been satisfied with how his side pressed FC United during the opening 25 minutes, and in particular how corners were causing some problems for the home side, with Paddy Wharton being forced to make a couple of crucial saves during this opening period.

However, as the first half progressed, FC United increased the tempo and, spearheaded by man of the match Michael Donohoe, started to test Linnets more and more.

FC United soon broke the deadlock after half-time, with Donohoe sprinkling some magic through the middle to create an opening for NIALLE RODNEY, who slotted home on 49 minutes.

As is often the case in pre-season, the rhythm of the match would ultimately be affected by second half substitutions, but there was still enough time before the final whistle for FC United to double their lead, with substitute JACK LENEHAN seeing his shot from outside the penalty area deflect and make its way past goalkeeper Bayleigh Passant on 91 minutes.
