An FC United of Manchester Youth Team XI, featuring a number of first and second years, narrowly went down by two goals to one in Friday afternoon’s friendly match against Widnes FC u18s on the Broadhurst Park 3G.

The opening goal came for the visitors after just six minutes. CHARLIE WALTON placing the ball wide of Mason Walker in the FC United goal.

The equaliser for FC United came early in the second half, after 55 minutes, GEORGE BARBOZA collecting the ball at the edge of the penalty area before directing a low shot through a crowd of players and into the corner of the net.

The Young Reds were, however, to be on level terms for only three minutes, as CHARLIE WALTON scored his second for Widnes FC u18s. Goalkeeper Mason Walker got a hand to the ball this time but couldn’t quite prevent the shot from crossing the line.

Whilst that was to be the end of the afternoon’s goal scoring, although home substitute Sheriff Kabba almost levelled for FC United on 79 minutes, his effort being thwarted by the Widnes ’keeper.

FC United of Manchester Youth will next be in action in the National League u19 Alliance Division ’H’ on Wednesday 11th March 2020 when they travel to the Silverlands Stadium to take on Buxton FC Youth (KO 1.00 p.m.)
