FC United start pre-season with win at Eccleshill
FC United finally got their pre-season underway on Saturday with a 4-1 victory over Eccleshill United on a bright sunny Bradford day.

Manager Neil Reynolds took the opportunity to select two sides, one for each half, containing a mix of last years squad, new signings and triallists.

The referee actually blew his whistle early and FC were a goal down before the clock struck three. A clumsy Luke Griffiths tackle about 20 yards out was punished and the home skipper Aran Basi fired an unstoppable free-kick past FC keeper Luke Brookes, in as Ollie Martin had a slight muscle pull, to open the scoring.

On 12 minutes, Regan Linney was played in but denied by a great tackle from Somali Cissa. Just before the half hour, FC were level when Linney was played in and finished coolly.

The home side had a couple of good chances, Luke Dean heading wide when well placed. Just before half time Chris Doyle did the same from an Adam Dodd cross.

On 49 minutes, FC took the lead when a ball found Fin Sinclair-Smith who saw his shot well saved. But just as the rebound was finding its way back to him, he was fouled with a high foot in the face. The referee gave the penalty and Charlie Ennis sent the keeper the wrong way.

Sinclair-Smith was lively and saw a shot from the left saved well by Brad Emerson. Chances continued to come, Dodd ran down the left and found Ennis who saw his shot come back off the post. On 79 minutes, it was the turn of new signing Nathan Burke to hit the post as the Reds looked to extend their lead.

Whilst this was going on at one end, there was a good chance for the home side to draw level, Brookes was loose with a clearance that let in Tabish Hussain but he recovered well to save with his feet.

With 10 minutes left, traillist Matt van Wyk was played in, his shot tipped onto the post and wide by Emerson. The corner found its way to Michael Potts who drilled home a rasping shot into the top corner to extend the lead.

With just moments remaining another trialist Cyril Owolabi was played in but Emerson saved. The lead was extended with the last kick of the game when Van Wyk was played in and he finished well from the edge of the box
