FC United continue pre-season with 3-0 win at Longridge Town
FC United continued their pre-season preparation with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Longridge Town ‪on Saturday afternoon‬.

The fixture was supposed to take place on Tuesday, but Storm Francis had other ideas and the thirty or so travelling fans were instead treated to a ‪Saturday afternoon‬ game in the picturesque surroundings of Ribble Valley.

The Reds controlled the game against a good level of opponent and despite making wholesale changes at the break, they seemed to get stronger in the second half as they added two goals to Matt van Wyk’s first half strike.

Fin Sinclair-Smith was easily the stand out player in the opening half, causing all kinds of problems for the home defence from either flank, and looking like he had an abundance of confidence whenever he found himself one-on-one with an opposition defender.

Van Wyk got the only goal of the first half after a corner from the right was flicked on to the far post for the forward to volley in from close range to get himself on the score sheet in consecutive games.

At the break Reno took the chance to make wholesale changes with nine players (including two trialists) coming onto the field and the familiarity between the second half players was clearly on show as FC looked dangerous from the off.

Regan Linney put in a great performance in the second half and doubled the lead for FC after 68 minutes. Potts drove forward from the middle of the park, coolly slotting the ball in to Linney who fired home.

More chances came for the Reds who were now showing their extra class by controlling the game. It felt a third goal would come sooner rather than later.

Michael Fowler had an impressive debut against Barrow last week and this week his second half performance was capped off by an 87th minute goal. Potts again the provider, with another defence splitting ball that left Fowler one-on-one with the Longridge ‘keeper, showing great composure to slot it into the bottom corner.

An impressive performance from FC as they now find themselves three weeks away from the season opener at home to Nantwich. Next up for the Reds is a trip to Clitheroe on Bank Holiday Monday.

Website man of the match – Fin Sinclair-Smith/Regan Linney: both players stood out in their respective forty-five minutes on the pitch, looking dangerous and confident on the ball throughout.
