PRO DIRECT ACADEMY XI 3 FC UNITED of MANCHESTER YOUTH 6
Following the cancellation of Thursday night’s FA Youth Cup tie against Litherland REMYCA u18s, the FC United of Manchester Youth team instead hastily organised a replacement friendly match against a Pro Direct Academy XI at Platt Lane, Manchester on Wednesday morning, and came away with a useful 6-3 win.
The opening goal for the visitors came on 14 minutes. A corner from the right dropped invitingly into the middle of the goalmouth, and JACK WARD was well placed to tap the loose ball home from six yards out.
A minute before half time, FC United went 2-0 up. Mason Beard’s free kick hit an upright, and JACK WARD was first to get to the rebound for his second of the game.
On 49 minutes, it was 3-0. FENTON SCOTT sent a cross in from the left which wasn’t dealt with properly by the home ’keeper who somehow allowed the ball over the line. They all count!
The home side did pull one back on 54 minutes before FC United then restored their three goal advantage on 65 minutes when a Mason Beard header set up FENTON SCOTT who coolly beat the home keeper in a one-on-one.
A CALLUM SMITH own goal past an out-of-position Benn Pugh made it 4-2 on 80 minutes, before a powerful CHRISTIAN EDOKPAYI shot from the edge of the box made it 5-2 on 85 minutes.
Less than 60 seconds later MASON BEARD fired home goal number six on 86 minutes before the home side completed the scoring a minute later, this after FC United ’keeper Benn Pugh had lost the ball in possession.

The two teams intend to meet up again in a return friendly on the Broadhurst Park 3G on Friday 23rd October 2020.
