Match Report
It was back to winning ways after last weeks disappointment to Tarporley. The reserves fielded a depleted side following the call up of several key players to the first teams President Cup semi final away at Goole. On a blustery afternoon Monk looked an improved outfit from the side who were thumped 6-0 on the opening day of the season at Abbey Hey and restricted FC’s attacks throughout much of the first half.

Warren Collier caused problems throughout, especially with some good work in the twentieth minute beating a couple of Monk players before delivering an excellent driven cross which went unmet at the back post. Lee Ellis also had a good chance in the 44th minute opting to go directly for goal when the better option may have been to square the ball – the keeper saved well. Another excellent Collier cross from the right just before the interval went unmet but gave the visitors confidence for the second half.

The wind eased and we were met with a downpour for the second period. FC began to dominate and it came as no surprise when Jamie Rothwell touched home after a Collier flick in the box. Man of the match Collier crowned his performance with a goal on 62 minutes and as the rain eased Lee Ellis rounded the keeper before blasting home into the top corner from all of zero yards! By now a dispirited Monk side were well beaten and following a couple of needless cautions for the home side ‘veteran’ assistant manager Garry Vaughan was introduced to steady the ship.

Gary Edwards also made a welcome return to the side after a long lay off due to injury and he went close in the closing moments, just unable to connect and finish what would have been a great move but the small band of FC supporters still went home happy.

Standout performances from Warren Collier, Adam Turner and Mike Sacks.
