Match Report
Having had an attempt to play New Mills called off at short notice earlier in the season, the Youth Team returned to Church Lane on a sunny Sunday afternoon. After dominating the first half, with only two goals to show for their efforts, they were fortunate only to concede one in a below par second half.

In a lively opening FC had four good chances in the first five minutes, Jay Walcott returning to the side was particularly unlucky as Connor Malpas in the New Mills goal twice turned goal bound shots out for corners. He also saved well from Ryan Lyons and Kane Joyce. The only surprise was that it took until the 24th minute for FC to score. A New Mills clearance was turned round as a header found its way to Jay, he quickly turned the ball wide to Kane who was able to run clear of the home defence and fire past Malpas into the far corner.

New Mills were unlucky not to equalise almost immediately when a free kick was headed just wide. However FC swept forward and quickly won another corner. Carl Fitton’s kick was slightly mishit but found the head of Dylan Moloney from which it was fired home by Davison Banda. The reds continued to press for the rest of the first half and had a number of corners but didn’t seriously threaten the home goal.

Although the second half started in much the same vein, New Mills hassled and harried the reds out of their stride. It was only home profligacy in front of goal that prevented them from being level by the mid-point of the second half and indeed surprising that they didn’t score at all until the 86th minute. When it came the goal was an easy finish as the visitors defence went missing. It sparked a frantic search for an equaliser, which on the game as a whole would have been the least New Mills deserved. It didn’t come and the FC side left grateful to be able to continue their unbeaten run.

FC United of Manchester: Andrew Farrimond, Davison Banda, Carl Fitton, Matt Tierney, Luke Kolakowski, Harrison Reeve, Ryan Lyons, Josh Burke, Dylan Moloney, Jay Walcott, Kane Joyce (Luke Walker 59 mins). Not Used: Aron Buckley-Smith, Lee Worswick, James Green.

Goals: Kane Joyce (24 mins), Davison Banda (26 mins).
