Match Report
For the first time since November FC United youth took to the field in NWYA League action today. Prescot Cables were the visitors and in a closely fought contest would consider themselves unfortunate to go back to Merseyside pointless as the reds won courtesy of first half strikes from Kial Callacher and Theo Kidd. The visitors pulled one back when the ball broke for Adam Rider at the far post in the second half and hit the post near the end. The reds had the ball in the net early in the second half as Theo Kidd broke clear of the defence before knocking the ball back for Sam Howell to fire home. It was disallowed as the linesman ruled that Sam was ahead of the ball when the pass was made.

The game was keenly contested in midfield and the visitors restricted the reds to half chances in the first half hour. Whilst Matthew Boland clipped the bar early on the Prescot goal was not truly threatened in the first half hour. In the final fifteen minutes of the half the FC stepped up a gear and hit two goals in five minutes. The first saw Josh Smethurst pass to Theo Kidd, his shot was saved but central defender Kial Callacher showed his striking capabilities to fire home the rebound. Less than five minutes later a pass forward gave Theo Kidd a run behind the Prescot Defence before sliding the ball past John Sharpe in the visitors goal.

In the second half Prescot made life uncomfortable for the reds and carried a much more potent threat themselves. It did however, take them until the 76th minute to breach the home defence. An equaliser was always possible, especially as Theo and Sam Howell both spurned chances when behind the Prescot back four in the last ten minutes.

FC United of Manchester: Jonathan Beisty, Alex Stones, Josh Smethurst, Connor Naughton, Kyle Cunningham, Kial Callacher (James Brooks 63 mins), Sam Howell, Chris Smith (Tom Minnock 46 mins), Theo Kidd, Matthew Boland Jonathan Poizer (Andrew Lee 60 mins).

Goals: Kial Callacher 36 mins, Theo Kidd 39 mins

Cautioned: Josh Smethurst.
