Match Report
In an evening of reminiscence, an FC United XI traveled to Atherton Collieries to take on an Oldham Borough side coached by former youth team manager Andy Whiteman and featuring former youth star Jordan Dainty.

The home side started very much the stronger of the two sides with three good chances before a good through ball gave Carl Dean space in the box to shoot past Sam Andrew in the FC goal.

That seemed to spark a response from FC United with Matthew Boland coming close on a number of occasions and even right back Richard Smith bursting forward on fifteen minutes. Unfortunately it was Oldham Borough who doubled their lead on 24 minutes, a cross from the left reached Ryan Allessandra who fired home.

FC United had the better of the remainder of the first half without creating a clear chance although Matt Greenwood at left back provided some forward momentum and Daniel Maynard caused problems for the home defence.

Four half time substitutions helped to give FC a more cohesive look and pulled a goal back after 51 minutes when the ball was crossed from the left for Matthew Boland, who with some work still to do was able to chip over the home goalkeeper. Theo Kidd came on shortly afterwards and created problems with his movement. He was unlucky not to equalise in the 75th minute when the keeper got a touch to see the ball out for a corner via his post.

Five minutes later an energetic burst from Richard Smith riding over several enthusiastic challenges before a Frank van Gils shot was saved. He was also on the end of a Ryan Lyons free kick with five minutes to go.

Matthew Boland came close to equalizing, hitting the post with a snap shot after his first effort was blocked. He was however surprised not to have been given an even better chance when he appeared to have been fouled in the box. However it finished 2-1 to the home side.
