Always believe in yourself

FC United have got to get their self-belief back according to manager Karl Marginson as the Reds look to get their first win in four games on Saturday against Wakefield at Gigg Lane where former Manchester United reserve team striker Aaron Burns could be handed his debut.

With four victories, one draw and three defeats it’s fair to say that the North West Counties double winners’ league form has been patchy so far this season, on top of this though they have now been dumped out of the three main cup competitions; the FA Cup, the FA Trophy and the UniBond League Cup.

The step up has not been easy but Margy still has faith in his squad. He said: "They don’t just become bad players over night. There’s been quite a bit of disruption and injuries, things have gone against us on that front but that’s part and parcel of football. We need to stick together and get that self-belief back."??

Despite currently languishing in the unfamiliar position of mid-table, United would leap up to fourth place and into the play-off zone if they were to win their two games in hand on the pacesetters. With that in mind, Margy is determined to see his team kick on and get a running streak under their belts.

With Stuart Rudd out for the foreseeable future with a knee injury sustained last Saturday at Bradford, the Reds could be found wanting up front. However, getting someone of Burns’ pedigree to play for the club could prove to be a masterstroke.

The 19-year-old striker was Manchester United’s top scorer in the reserves last season, coming through the ranks with the likes of Fraizer Campbell, but was allowed to leave Old Trafford in the summer for Cardiff City.

However, with the arrival of Robbie Fowler and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink to the Blue Birds’ Ninian Park home opportunities were limited for the Manchester born striker. After a brief spell with Icelandic second division side, Afurelding, Burns has returned home to play football until the transfer window opens again in January when he will be allowed to sign for a professional club.

Until then, Margy is thrilled to have him at his disposal: "You don’t play for Manchester United reserves unless you can play football. I’ve watched him in training and he’s a great finisher, he’s very sharp and he’s obviously been schooled very well as you’d expect.

"He knows Chris Baguley from their time at United together and Nicky Platt from playing against him when Nicky was at Liverpool, so hopefully that will allow him to settle in more easily."??

Baguley is likely to get a run in the first team after impressing Margy with a number of good performances and former Rochdale winger, Theo Coleman will probably be thrown into the action at some point after doing well as a substitute in diffficult circumstances on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Shaun Roscoe has added to United’s injury woes by contracting a bout of food poisoning, captain David Chadwick faces a late fitness test due to undergoing a minor operation on Thursday but Adam Carden may be in with a chance of making the squad after recovering well from last week’s injury.

FC United of Manchester versus Wakefield FC is this Saturday, 13 October at Gigg Lane with kick off at 3pm. It’s pay on the gate with prices the usual £7.50 for adults, £5 for OAPS and £2 for under-18s.
