Praise for the departing Grundy

Goalkeeper Aaron Grundy has been praised by manager Karl Marginson after returning to Bury following his month long loan spell at FC United.

The 20-year-old shot stopper came in as an emergency signing when Sam Ashton dislocated a finger in a friendly against Flixton. He went on to make eight appearances for the Reds, keeping three clean sheets.

Margy has been delighted by the youngster’s contribution on and off the pitch. He said: "His ability is there for all to see but he has a professionalism about him - you can tell he is in full time training.

"To step in to any team like he did is tough and he handled it very well. He’s a credit to himself and his parents and I saw them at the match on Saturday and said exactly that to them. We’d love to keep him."??

Ashton presented Grundy with the supporters’ player of the month award before the Newcastle Blue Star game and FC United gave him a special medal as a gesture of thanks. He may well be back at a match soon because he is still to be presented with the UniBond ’Safe Hands’ award for goalkeeper of the month in February.

And Margy added with a smile: "It’s been funny Aaron getting that award because Sam’s never won it and all the lads have been letting him know and giving him stick in training. You’ve got to haven’t you?"??
