Title challenge going to the wire

Bradford Park Avenue’s victory over Osset Albion last night may have put a slight dent in FC United’s title hopes but a win at home against Woodley Sports on Wednesday night will ensure the title race will go down to the last match of the season this Saturday.

Victory on both Wednesday at home to Woodley and Saturday, away at Garforth, opens the door for a third successive title. And, of course, every Red will also be cheering on Rossendale, who host BPA on Saturday, as well as Newcastle Blue Star and Skelmersdale United who both entertain Curzon Ashton this week.

We need as big a crowd as possible on Wednesday to get behind the lads after a gruelling few weeks, so let’s get to that football ground and roar them home. Woodley have proved to be tricky opponents for United so far this season, holding them to a 1-1 draw in September at Gigg Lane and it took a spectacular injury time overhead kick from Stuart Rudd to see them off at Lambeth Grove on Easter Monday. United may well need the supporters to act as the 12th man to get them past their opponents again.

Saturday’s away trip to Garforth is strictly an all-ticket affair and tickets will be on sale from the Gigg Lane ticket on Wednesday night. The West Yorkshire side could also provide a tough test as their tough tackling approach proved too much for the Reds way back in August. Margy’s men will be keen to avenge that defeat especially because some felt there was more than a little bit of gamesmanship in the first encounter.

Should we narrowly miss out on the title we are, after recent results, guaranteed a play-off spot and should we finish 2nd or 3rd in the league, then the semi-final will be at Gigg Lane a week on Wednesday (30 April) with a potential final the following Saturday.

See herefor full details.

Get yourselves to those football grounds and cheer the lads to the end of what could be the most impressive achievement in the short history of FC United of Manchester.
