Reds 'must do better'

As FC United head into a bumper Bank Holiday weekend against Buxton and Boston United, manager Karl Marginson has told his team that they must do better if they are to fulfil their true potential in the UniBond Premier Division.

Margy, who is hoping to welcome Jerome Wright and Adam Carden back from injury this weekend, has been pleased by some of the football his team have played but mistakes have proved costly. That’s something the manager puts down partly to nerves. He said: "We need to be starting games like we’re finishing them. We need to play like we can right from the first whistle.

"Some of the lads have been a little bit nervous possibly because some of them haven’t played at this level before. It’s not good me just telling them they are good enough, they need to go out there and realise they are."??

And Margy knows that things need to improve in defence. He said: "If we can keep clean sheets we can be challenging in this division. Kyle Wilson has shown he is a quality player, Si Carden could have had a hat-trick on Saturday and Chris Baguley showed what he can do. But we’ve gifted five goals to our opponents in two games. We need to get back to being tighter at the back."??

Normal service may not be resumed until Rob Nugent recovers from knee surgery and that is still at least another two weeks off. The good news is wing duo Wright and Carden are back in training and may play some part in the Bank Holiday action. Carden, has recovered from a knee ligament injury and is hopeful of featuring in both matches whilst Wright is nearly over a stomach strain and may be back for Monday.

Meanwhile, Carlos Roca will face a fitness test after being substituted on Tuesday night at Cammell Laird with a thigh strain whereas the competitive debut of young forward Rhys Hardie has been put on hold due to a strained hamstring.

FC United travel to Buxton on Saturday and then it’s under-18s go free when they entertain former Football League club Boston United at 3pm on Monday at Gigg Lane. Get yourself to those football grounds.
