Minithon a huge success

The first FC United Minithon was declared a resounding success with well over £10,000 raised, the proceeds are to be split between Manchester based charity MedEquip4kids and FC United.

The race was started by British Paralympian Matt Walker. After the end of the race runners and supporters all headed off to the Chorlton Irish Centre for the prize giving compered by Manchester comic Des Sharples. Followed by entertainment laid on by Moston drama group MaD and FC United junior members and Monkey’s Punk.

A huge thank you to everyone who took part; all the ’athletes’, marshals and organisers but especially to all those who sponsored the event.

Prizes were awarded for the fastest and the daftest, these are some of the times today. The times are for the first 5 km although the total distance was 5.8 km.

1, - Runner No 22 - Chris Small - 19 mins 16 secs - WINNER!
2, - No 3 - Duncan Drasdo - 19 mins 19 secs
3, - No 86 - Simon Garner - 19 mins 54 secs - 1st player
4, - no 37 - Patrick Walsh - 20 mins 45 secs - Junior Winner
5, - no ? - ?????????????? - 21 mins 27 secs
6, - no 52 - 21 mins 46 secs
7, - no 43 - Glynn Williams - 22 mins 43 secs
8, - no 78 - 22 mins 28 secs
9, - no 32 - 22 mins 43 secs
10, - no 42 - 22 mins 57 secs
11, - no 70 - Michael Burtonwood jr - 23 mins 14 secs
23, - no 67 - Leanne Carey - 27 mins 53 secs - 1st female


The winner of runner and dog category was Danny Selvidge and Boru.

Best headgear went to Jules Spencer. He carried his son on his shoulders all the way around.

Best dressed went to John England who looked very fetching in his pink wig. Board member Ian Robertson wasn’t very far behind with his shirt and club tie and jacket on top and his short running shorts down below.

There was a parallel Southern Race for all those marooned away from Manchester which was run over a course of approx 5.6Km in Battersea Park:-

The leading times for the Southern Race were:

1, Mike Bradbury - 23 mins 52 secs
2, James Hobson - 24 mins 53 secs
3, Anthony Leahy - 27 mins 04 secs

The first dog was Casper in 55 mins 22 secs after getting lost.
