Reds ready to enter Lions' den

Manager Karl Marginson admits he has a selection headache for Sunday’s trip to second place Guiseley but he will welcome back captain David Chadwick and left-back Simon Garner to sure up the defence which leaked five goals during the incredible 5-5 draw with Cammell Laird on Wednesday night.

"Those two coming back from suspension should give us the strength we were lacking at the back. If Chaddy had played on Wednesday, we would have won - I’m sure of that,"?? says Margy. "It’s no slight on Rob, because we all know what a good player he is but it showed that he has been out for a while."??

Nugent is likely to make way for Chadwick and will work on his match fitness which has understandably suffered due to not playing a full competitive game for the Reds since the play-off final against Skelmersdale in April. Garner is set to takeover from 19-year-old Alex Skidmore and Danny Warrender may drop back from midfield into right-back instead of Liam Foster.

However, Margy is far from decided on his team selection, mainly due to the way his three substitutes, Chris Baguley, Papis Dieyte and Nick Robinson helped change the game in midweek after their introductions.

"It’s great to see three subs come on and change the game that way. They have given me a few headaches for Sunday but I’m not going to start panicking even though they are all in the frame for selection.

"Nick gives us another option up front because of his size and the way he holds the ball. His cross for Chris’ header the other night was different class and then he showed great desire to get on the end of one himself and score the equaliser.

"Papis got a bit giddy after he hit the post from a long way out, but he has a decent left peg and was switching play nice and quickly. Once he adapts to the speed of the English game his strength and passing will be an asset."

Despite enjoying a run of six games without defeat, United go into Sunday’s clash with the Lions as underdogs. The West Yorkshire side have climbed to second in the table with four wins out of the last five matches and they have three games in hand over leaders Hednesford Town.

However, the recent run belies Guiseley’s poor home form. FC United fans will be buoyed to learn that the Lion’s have only won one out of their last six matches at Nethermoor Park - suffering defeats to Buxton, Whitby Town and Ossett Town. Three teams that the Reds have defeated without too much trouble.

Guiseley versus FC United is this Sunday at 3pm at Nethermoor Park near Leeds. It’s pay on the gate with entry priced £7 adults, £3.50 concessions and £1 for under-12s.

With two of the league’s highest scoring teams on show and United’s ’goal-a-game’ striker Kyle Wilson on the prowl; anything is possible. Get yourself to that football ground.
