Forever and ever

The events and aftermath of Thursday 6th February 1958 will never be forgotten.

Manchester, and indeed the wider football world, was in mourning as one of Manchester United’s finest ever teams was wiped out with the tragic and untimely death of 23 people including eight Busby Babes.

Fifty-one years on, FC United of Manchester would like to pay tribute to everyone who lost their lives as a result of the Munich air disaster.

The Babes; Geoff Bent, Roger Byrne, Eddie Colman, Mark Jones, David Pegg, Tommy Taylor and Liam ’Billy’ Whelan who perished at Munich-Riem Airport and Duncan Edwards, possibly the greatest of them all, who died in hospital 15 days later.

Three members of the club’s backroom staff; secretary Walter Crickmer, chief coach Bert Whalley, and trainer Tom Curry.

Eight journalists; Alf Clarke - Manchester Evening Chronicle, Don Davies - Manchester Guardian, George Follows - Daily Herald, Tom Jackson - Manchester Evening News, Archie Ledbrooke - Daily Mirror, Henry Rose - Daily Express, Eric Thompson - Daily Mail and Frank Swift - News of the World journalist and former England and Manchester City goalkeeper.

Two crew members; co-pilot Kenneth Rayment and cabin steward Tom Cable along with travel agent Bela Miklos and Willie Satinoff - a supporter and close friend of Matt Busby.
