United aim to bounce back

FC United aim to get their promotion push back on track on Saturday as they make the tricky trip to Kendal Town but they may still be without the UniBond’s leading goal scorer, Kyle Wilson.

The match will provide a tough test as the Reds look to avoid a third successive defeat against Kendal, who are just one point behind the Reds in eighth place. The Field, as they are known to many of their supporters due to starting life as Netherfield AFC, look to be in good form at the moment having demolished second placed Hednesford United 4-1 at Parkside Road.

Manager Karl Marginson will wait to see whether Wilson is ready to return after suffering a knee injury in United’s last victory - over Guiseley three weeks ago. And Tommy Turner has returned to Bacup Borough after Margy couldn’t guarantee him a starting place in the team. However, the boss is confident that other members of the squad can come in and prove their worth if Wilson is still unavailable.

He said: "We have cover up front. I was pleased with Carl Lomax’s debut last week - he played well and got on the score sheet. As well as Carl, Danny Williams, Tris Whitman and Carlos Roca are all in the reckoning."??

United must also wait on the fitness of full-back Simon Garner, who is also struggling with a knee problem. Garner will be keen to make amends after being sent off in the reverse of this fixture at Gigg Lane in October. The former Stalybridge Celtic defender got his marching orders along with Town’s player manager Lee Ashcroft for a violent off the ball clash.

United lost that match 3-1 as Carl Osman - younger brother of Everton’s Leon - showed his class by bagging two goals. Osman is all set to cause the Reds more problems tomorrow but Kendal may be without last season’s player of the year, Paul Byrne who twisted his ankle in the midweek win away to Leigh.

Kendal Town versus FC United of Manchester is Saturday 21 February at 3pm. The match is pay on the gate.
