Wood Street Mission

Do you have any new or good quality children’s books that could do with a good home?

FC United have recently linked up with local children’s charity the Wood Street Mission, the charity’s manager, Jan O’Connor explains what the organisation does:

’We were founded in 1869 and offer help with clothing, bedding, baby equipment and toys to local children and families in Manchester and Salford. In 2008 we gave a new School Uniform package to children. All families are referred by their support worker. Last year over 10,000 people received help.

We rely on local people to support us both financially and with donations of goods.

This year we have launched a new project, the Children’s Book Club. Education is the key to children having a better future. The School Uniform Project was the first stage of our commitment towards this. We now want to help them develop their learning skills.

We would welcome donations of new or good quality children’s books. We aim to host a Book Club during each school holiday, the first of which will be the Spring Half Term in May.’

If supporters have any suitable books they can be dropped off at the FC office or at reception on a Matchday and we will ensure that they get passed on to Wood Street.
