The race is run

The bravery (or recklessness) award for FC participants in Sunday’s Great Manchester 10km Run went to young Aimee Carter-Roebuck who completed the run in a full Liverpool kit as a bet to raise funds for the club. She got around in one piece but unfortunately for her the photos have already been on public display!

Second place for bravery goes to the bloodied Davy Hibbert who completed the course in 46 minutes despite being tripped up by a spectator and sent flying, cutting his hands and knees.

And third place must go to Ricky Lloyd. Ricky attended the FC Players Presentation Evening last Friday. We are not sure if he had drunk too much but when a spare 10K running pack was listed in the auction Ricky found himself volunteered for the run on Sunday, whereupon the crowd applauded his foolhardiness and donated over £200 to send him on his ordeal for FC funds. It lasted 1 hour 31 minutes and 55 seconds.

34 FC United supporters in first team shirts were among the 33,000 runners from City Centre out to Old Trafford and back again. All around the course our heroic red shirted runners were fantastically greeted by cries of "Come on FC!"??

FC’s number one athlete however couldn’t stop to wave back to the crowd: Martin Andersen smashed the previous best FC time held by Nicky Platt and came 128th out of the total field in a time of 37 minutes 24 seconds.

Nicky this year finished in 41.44, and only 20 seconds slower than last year.

The Parkinson family cut fine figures with Dave clocking 41.43, James 44.15 and Alison, the first FC woman who crossed the line in 52.04. And while our women might have been outrun by the men, they have the top fund raiser with over £400 being put on Lucy Pendlebury, leading Darryl Latham by a few tenners.

Other top times for FC supporters were :-

Lee Sherrard - 46.28
Darryl Lester - 47.28
Neil Nelson - 47.48

Thanks to Tony Pritchard of Churchill Foods, our noble athletes then feasted on a grand supply of free sandwiches as they swapped yarns of their adventures in the city’s streets.

Should you wish to show your appreciation for the their blood, sweat and tears to raise funds for the FC cause please go direct to www.bmycharity.com/fcunited or click on the individual runners links below.

A big thanks to all those who took part and have raised over £3,000 to date..
