Seven-a-side tournaments for 16-19 year olds

For the remainder of this season, FC United’s community team will be running a seven-a-side tournament for teams of 16-19 year olds at Goshen Sports Centre in Bury.

The tournament is ideally suited for projects which are using football to improve community cohesion or address issues around social exclusion and for any team of young men who play football together for fun and want to test themselves in a friendly tournament.

The games will take place on an artificial pitch and kick-off is at 12 noon. We aim to finish at 2pm, have a quick bite to eat and then get down to Gigg Lane to watch the FC match.

In addition, we run a football coaching session for FC United junior supporters, children and young people below the age of 16.

All participants get a free ticket to watch the match.

Funding for the project has come from The Co-operative, Bury Sports Development’s Communities for Health Programme and Manchester County FA.

Dates when we are running tournaments are;

13th February 2010
27th February 2010
13th March 2010
20th March 2010
24th April 2010

Earlier this season we have had a number of tournaments which have involved the following teams;

Audenshaw Gunners
Barnardo’s Making It Work Project, Manchester
The Next Step Project, Salford
The Mosses Community Centre, Bury
The Shuttle Centre, Whitefield
The Outcasts, a team made up of FC fans and their friends.

Adrian Roebuck, a community volunteer who has been heavily involved in the project, said: “For me this project sums up what FC United is all about. Getting people together from lots of different backgrounds, playing football together and going to watch the match together. This project is helping us to fulfil core principle five of our clubs manifesto which states, ’The club will encourage young, local participation - playing and supporting - whenever possible’.”

If you have a team who would be interested in taking part in the tournament, send an email to robinpye@fc-utd.co.uk
