FC Youth Fall Short at Alty.

In a week when youth was given its head in the first team, the FC United under 18’s went to Altrincham with a simple message; namely that if you are good enough and want it enough, you too will get a chance. Sadly in a 3-0 defeat, where all the goals came in a 10 minute spell midway through the first half, nobody wanted it enough.

The reds started brightly with plenty of possession and a couple of half chances in the first ten minutes, skipper Josh Burke looking perhaps most likely to be the source of supply. Then in the eleventh minute an Altrincham free kick was headed just over by Michael Linney after being given to much time to pick a spot. This seemed to be taken as a warning to FC and another couple of chances came and went. Then three Altrincham attacks down their left wing saw balls into the box converted with ease as Rory Bradbury helped himself to two goals followed by one for Linney.

The second half was a more even contest although Altrincham did look more likely to score. FC’s best chance came late on when substitute Ryan Lyons fired just over the bar after a neat run and exchange of passes with Gage Eme.

The game finished 3-0 to Altrincham and next up for the reds is the County FA Cup Semi Final against Avro’s at St Bride’s next Sunday.
