United face tough task at Nethermoor

After the excitement off the pitch this week with the announcement of our proposed new home, FC United will be hoping to get back to creating some excitement on the pitch with the trip to title-chasing Guiseley.

Following the 5-1 hammering at home to UniBond Premier Division leaders Bradford Park Avenue on Wednesday night, the Reds will be desperate to restore some pride but they could barely have a tougher fixture - away to the second placed Lions.

Captain David Chadwick faces a race against time to shrug off a shoulder injury which kept him out of Wednesday’s defeat but other than that manager Karl Marginson should have a virtually full squad to choose from, with the exception of a few long term absentees.

Striker Ben Deegan is available before he has to serve a three match ban, two matches for receiving 10 yellow cards this season and the third for being sent-off against Avenue. He is likely to feature alongside Phil Marsh but with former youth team player Jamie Mack returning to full fitness, Margy may be tempted to give the youngster a run out.

New recruit Chris Ovington will be hoping to be involved as well after impressing as a substitute last weekend against Hucknall. There will be added incentive to play for the former Leeds United youth and reserve team player as he spent a month on-loan at Guiseley last season.

United have played at Nethermoor once before, in November 2008. An enthralling encounter finished 2-2 after Anthony Lloyd smashed home a stunning 25-yard screamer in stoppage time to cancel out what looked to have been a late winner for the Reds by Kyle Wilson.

Saturday’s match is a 12 noon kick-off on police advice but the game is pay on the gate with prices at £7 for adults, £3.50 for concessions, and £1 for under-12s.
