Voluntary work - Newton Heath & Miles Platting

The community team would like to find out how many members and fans would be interested in doing voluntary work in Newton Heath and Miles Platting on a regular basis.

The work would be part of a project to address the isolation of people (mainly elderly) who live on their own in the community immediately around the site of our proposed new stadium. The long term aim is to help make our new stadium in Newton Heath a focus of social inclusion in the area. We are looking for volunteers who would be willing to do the following;

- Visit somebody who lives on their own and is socially isolated and help them with getting shopping done or accessing health services or just having a cup of tea and a chat with them.

- Help organise a regular luncheon club that would meet in Miles Platting and then accompany members of the club to FC United matches. Volunteers would get a free meal and a free ticket to the match.

- Help to provide administrative support for this project working one day a week in the FC United office.

Volunteers would be able to access training one afternoon per week which would lead to an accredited qualification in community work.

At this stage we are writing a grant application to get some funding to set this up. We want to be able to put into the application the level of interest from amongst our own members and fans. If our grant application is successful we expect the project to start in December. We appreciate that people’s circumstances may change in the future, but if we can get an indication of those people who can spare the time at the moment who might in principle be prepared to volunteer for a few weeks at least, that would be very helpful.

If you are, in principle, interested in volunteering, please email robinpye@fc-utd.co.uk
