Hurst set for debut against Stocksbridge

Former Bury striker Glynn Hurst is set to make his debut on Saturday as FC United host Stocksbridge Park Steels at Stalybridge Celtic’s Bower Fold and centre-back Martin Parker is also available after recovering from injury.

Manager Karl Marginson is excited by the new addition to the squad. He said: "Glynn has joined for the right reasons; he doesn’t want a bucket load of cash, he wants to play football for an ambitious team that’s going places.

"He’s experienced, a goal scorer and has a really good work ethic. He won’t give defenders any time to settle on the ball and he can link up play intelligently. He might not start tomorrow but he’ll definitely be involved at some stage. I’m genuinely excited to see him play."??

Jerome Wright will play his final game before serving a three match ban and Margy knows the disappointment of being suspended will spur the winger on. He said: "It’s something for Jerome to work on, to get that retaliation out of his game. He will draw fouls because of the type of player he is and he’s got to deal with it.

"He has to show defenders that they’re not going to bully him but he’s got to do it in the right way. Jerome fully accepts that and it’s something he’s working on."??

Steve Torpey’s groin injury may not be as bad as first feared. The midfielder has missed the last two games after limping off against Matlock but may be back into the action in the next couple of weeks.

Meanwhile, Sam Ashton is still ’a bit groggy’ according to Margy after suffering concussion at Bradford Park Avenue so Zach Hibbert will retain the number one jersey. Finally, a loan deal for centre-back Mark Ayres is being arranged with a North West Counties club.

FC United versus Stocksbridge Park Steels is this Saturday at Bower Fold with kick-off at 3pm. It’s pay on the gate and usual prices of £8 for adults, £5 concessions and £2 for under-18s. Get yourself to that football ground.
