United set for changes against Ossett Town
Despite four wins in a row, including Sunday’s FA Cup triumph over Conference Premier side Barrow, FC United manager Karl Marginson has admitted he will make some changes when the Reds return to league action with a trip to Ossett Town on Tuesday night.
With strikers Ben Deegan (hamstring strain) and Glynn Hurst (calf strain) both expected to be out for at least a week, Margy will be forced into making a minimum of one change to the weekend’s team. Karl Munroe is also struggling after taking a knock against the Bluebirds so Mark Ayres, who has been playing on loan at Irlam, could be set for a recall against the club that the Reds thrashed 4-1 at Bower Fold at the beginning of the month. Young winger Chris Ovington could also find himself in the starting 11 after impressing with a 30 minute appearance as a substitute on Sunday.
Margy said: “With all these games coming thick and fast in the FA Cup and Trophy, Tuesday is a good opportunity to freshen things up, rest a few players and give other players a chance to stake a claim for a spot in the team.???
Eagle-eyed supporters will have seen that club captain David Chadwick was named on the bench for Sunday after several weeks out with a groin strain. Margy said: “Chaddy is really close to playing again but we’ll probably get him a few games elsewhere first as he needs to regain his match fitness.???
Midfielder Steve Torpey is still a few weeks away and Margy is keen not to rush the former England Schoolboy international back too soon. Meanwhile, former Stalybridge Celtic player Richard Battersby is taking some time out from football due to personal issues. Everyone at FC United would like to wish Battersby all the best and hope to see him back at the club soon.
Margy was impressed with his team’s performance at the weekend but now he wants them to start reproducing that kind of display in the league. He said: “I personally think our performance against Newcastle has been our best yet but we were good on Sunday too and against a team two divisions above us.
“It’s a confidence thing. It’s been building for a short period of time, we’ve got the lads believing in themselves again after some disappointing results. It’s the same for a lot of footballers, not just our players. Take Wayne Rooney for example, he hasn’t been half the player we know he can be over the last few weeks because he’s obviously had things on his mind. Our players are playing with confidence again and it shows.???
