FC United versus Chasetown at Stalybridge this Wednesday

FC United are back at Bower Fold, the home of Stalybridge Celtic, this Wednesday for a six-pointer against the elusive and well supported Chasetown.

Chasetown are one of four Evo-Stik Premier Division teams we’ve yet to play this season. The Staffordshire side were due to visit Gigg Lane back in November but our FA Cup run got in the way of that. This is something Chasetown will appreciate, having had a famous cup run of their own five years ago.

The Scholars are also currently flying the flag for the Evo-Stik Premier Division in the FA Carlsberg Trophy this season and await the winners of Mansfield Town or Alfreton Town in the quarter finals – an exceptional achievement for a club in this division.

How to get there by public transport

For supporters without a car, getting to and from Bower Fold is straightforward by public transport.

The railway station is well served by trains from both Victoria and Piccadilly. Buses connect with the trains at the station and there’s a bus stop right outside the ground.

Of course if you’re feeling energetic (or want to stop off at a couple of pubs on the way) it’s a walk of just over a mile to/from the station.

The return train journey is £2.80 or a combined bus and train day saver is £5.50.

Plenty of us managed it on that cold, dark night in November 2009 for the FA Cup replay against Stalybridge Celtic after all…

What’s on?

Most of what happens at a home game at Gigg Lane will also be happening on Wednesday:

The membership stall will be located inside the ground, where our trusty volunteers will be on hand to help you with membership applications, Community Share Scheme information, copies of the Pink (while stocks last!) and to provide general club information to supporters. Reduced price season tickets will also be on sale (entrance price refundable on purchase).

The Pound for the Ground raffle will take place at half time where you can win £200.

The social club will be open both before the match and at half time (located inside the ground)

The Megastall will be pitched up temporarily inside the ground and will have the usual merchandise available, including new stock of the 2010-12 home shirt.

The Development Fund barrels will be located around the ground for your loose change. Supporters have raised over £7000 so far this season through the DF barrels and every penny in the barrels is one (tiny) step closer to Newton Heath.

It’s a home game, so don’t forget your season ticket!

Turnstiles will be open from 6.15pm, so get there in good time.

Depending on other results, FC United could move up to seventh with a win at Stalybridge. If the Reds are to make the play-offs this season, Chasetown are one of the teams we need to beat. The boys need your support for this one.
