Reds eye play-off place with Wednesday night win at Whitby

FC United will move into the play-off places for the first time since September if they can claim all three points at Whitby on Wednesday night.

With promotion rivals Marine and Matlock both losing away from home on Tuesday night, the Reds make the long trip to the north-east coast knowing a victory would see them leapfrog both teams into fifth place.

Karl Marginson’s side go into the game enjoying an 11 match unbeaten run, the like of which has not been seen since the club’s North West Counties days. Whitby on the other hand have just found a bit of form over the last seven days with a win and Hucknall and draw at Chasetown coming off the back of three straight defeats.

The Reds have met the Seasiders five times previously and have never lost to them, racking up three wins and two draws. Despite the good record, FC United may be concerned that they have never managed a win at the Turnbull Ground with a 2-2 draw last season and a 0-0 stalemate the season before which was overshadowed by Danny Williams breaking his leg.

However, with the squad fighting fit and Mike Norton looking for his 25th goal of the season, United will be confident of gaining their first ever win at Whitby and another priceless three points as they pursue a play-off place for the chance to gain promotion to the Conference North. Get yourself to that football ground.
