Fixtures for 2011/12

Although the Evo-Stik fixtures for the 2011/12 season are not expected to be released until 13th July, we now have a strong indication of when FC United will be at home and away during the forthcoming campaign, due to the announcement this week of Bury’s League One schedule.

So, for those supporters who like or need to plan ahead, here is a brief rundown of the more significant dates in the year:

We will expect to kick-off our fourth term in the Northern Premier Division on Saturday 13th August with an away trip.

As with last season, it is then likely that we will have two home matches in a row with the first of the season at 7.45pm on Wednesday 17th August followed at three o’clock on Saturday 20th.

With Bury away at Scunthorpe, it also looks likely that we will get to play only our second ever home Boxing Day fixture. The only previous one coming in 2006 when a last 20-minute fight-back saw the Reds overturn a 2-0 deficit to beat Ramsbottom 3-2 with Nicky Platt scoring the winner.

Bury are at home to Walsall on Monday 2nd January so it is likely that FC United will be away on New Year’s Day, unless the League decide instead to go with fixtures on New Year’s Eve as it falls on a Saturday, in which case FC United would have the option of being at home.

FC United’s travelling army of supporters can anticipate being away on the last Saturday of the season, which is expected to be 28th April, meaning that the last home fixture of the season will be Saturday 21st or possibly, given the likelihood of rearrangements, Wednesday 25th.

Following FC United’s FA Cup heroics last season, without tempting fate, supporters may also like to note the following dates for the competition this time around:

First Round Qualifying Saturday 17 September
Second Round Qualifying Saturday 1 October
Third Round Qualifying Saturday 15 October
Fourth Round Qualifying Saturday 29 October
First Round Proper Saturday 12 November
Second Round Proper Saturday 3 December

Before any of that though, Karl Marginson and his side have 10 pre-season friendlies lined-up starting with a trip to Airbus UK Broughton FC in Wales on Saturday 9th July which is followed the week after with the chance to contest the Supporters Direct Cup against new Evo-Stik rivals Chester.

For more information on all of our friendlies see the schedule and information here.
