FC United aiming for Easter cheer against Buxton

FC United will be without top scorer Michael Norton and defensive-midfielder Dean Stott as they look to keep their place in the play-offs with a win against struggling Buxton at Gigg Lane on Easter Saturday.

Norton and Stott both start three-game suspensions this weekend after red card offences in the 3-1 win over Worksop. There are also injury concerns in the Reds’ defence, with captain Kyle Jacobs, Adam Jones and Greg Stones all facing late fitness tests.

Manager Karl Marginson knows it will be a tough game against the Bucks but as ever, he’s confident his players have got what it takes to gain all three points. He said: "I expect it will be a very similar situation to the game, against Mickleover last Saturday. We’re playing a team fighting for their lives at the bottom of the table and it will no doubt be a very tough match.

"We played some great stuff last Saturday and could have scored more. The Mickleover players were very complimentary after the game and said the standard we played was far better than the league we are in.

"We hope to prove that point by getting out of this division via the play-offs, but in order to achieve that we need to beat the teams like Buxton. We know if we play our football, as we did against Mickleover, we will win."

And with the day set to celebrate women at football, Margy added: "I would like to praise the club for the excellent work surrounding today’s "A Woman’s Place is at the Match" event. We have women directly involved with the players with physiotherapy and nutrition and they do an excellent job and, as you’d expect, they are accepted as part of the team just as the male staff are. We wouldn’t even have a team without all those hundreds of volunteers and I want to pass my thanks on to them from the management, staff and players."

FC United of Manchester versus Buxton is this Easter Saturday at Gigg Lane. Kick-off is the traditional time of three o’clock and it’s pay on the gate with prices £8 for adults, £5 concessions and £2 for under-18s. Get yourself to that football ground.
