Friendly - Exeter City v FC United, Saturday 21 July 2012

FC United will play against Exeter City on Saturday 21 July 2012.

Fellow fans-owned club Exeter City have invited us to play a friendly at their ground, near the seaside, in the summer, on the first weekend of the kids’ school holidays. It took us about one second to say yes, yes, yes!

Exeter City will be the highest placed fans-owned club we’ve played in this country and it is very exciting that they have agreed to a game against FC United. Many of our fans have been to Exeter City’s St James’s Park ground before; in January 2005 for an FA Cup 3rd round replay between Exeter and Manchester United. Little did we realise that four months later we’d be starting on the road to creating our own fans-owned team modelled on clubs like Exeter City and that only a few years on we’d be in a position to return to that ground with a club that we co-own. It will be a great day for everyone at FC United.

We’d like to thank Exeter City for rearranging their pre-season programme to schedule this game on a Saturday, which helps make the trip more realistic for a large number of our supporters and we’d also like to thank Bishop Auckland for allowing us to move their game against FC United to 28th July 2012 in order to accommodate this fixture.

Finally, we’d like to acknowledge that negotiations for this friendly took place during a very difficult time for Exeter City, because their Director of Football, Steve Perryman, was recently taken seriously ill during an Exeter City game. Everyone at FC United would like to wish all the best to Steve and we understand he is making a good recovery.

Further details of the game will be published nearer the time.
