FC United has high-profile role at Co-ops United expo

This week sees FC United taking part in Co-operatives United, an inspiring and fun-filled global festival of events and exhibitions set in Manchester, to mark the close of the United Nations International Year of Co-operatives. The event, which takes place at Manchester Central, is mostly free and everyone is welcome.

Between 31 October and 2 November, FC United is involved in a range of events at Coops United that will help to promote both the club and the cooperative movement as a whole. On Wednesday 31 October, FC is shortlisted for a Co-ops UK award for the way we have used the media to promote our coop.

On the same day, FC with Supporters Direct and Co-operatives UK are holding "The Co-operative model succeeding in football" workshop from 2.30pm- 3.30pm in the Big Ideas Pod (1) at Manchester Central. Speakers include James Mathie, Supporters Direct; Ged Devlin, Co-ops UK and Jules Spencer, FC United. The workshop will show delegates that despite a regulatory system weighted against co-operatively owned football clubs, they are still succeeding.

FC United will also be providing two guides for a Co-ops UK coach taking Coops United visitors and delegates to watch the Ashton United v FC United Northern Premier League fixture at 7.45pm on 31 October. Earlier that same evening, from 6.30pm until 9.30pm, FC United, Supporters Direct and The Co-operative Group are holding a free reception at the National Football Museum, Manchester. Speakers include Andy Walsh, FC United general manager.

Throughout the Coops United event, FC United will be exhibiting at stand 36 on the Co-operative Street in Manchester Central. We’ll be giving delegates and visitors the chance to join the club and also buy FC shirts and memorabilia. We’ll also be running free football coaching outside Manchester Central throughout the week.

In addition and free to attend, on 1 November from 7.30pm-9.30pm, there will be an FC United XI versus Rest of the Co-operative World football match at Nicholls Campus, The Manchester College, Hyde Road, Ardwick, Manchester, M12 6BA.
