Margy says get to Gigg on Saturday

FC United manager Karl Marginson reflects on the win over Nantwich and looks forward to our first home game of 2013 and hopefully a big turn out from supporters.

"Thanks to the rainy holiday season, Saturday’s game at Nantwich was the first full game we’ve played since 15 December last year. With that in mind, I was delighted to take a two-goal lead inside the first ten minutes. As the match progressed our lack of match practice caught up with us against a battling Nantwich side but we held on for the win and at this time of the year that’s the main thing.

"In some ways we maybe started too well, as we backed off them a bit when we went two up. I’ve told the lads that they can’t do that and need to be a bit more ruthless when they get into that position. As a manager you can prepare the players for every eventuality but they need to be able to react on the pitch to what they face. The coaching staff reminded them of that after the game so hopefully they’ll take that on board.

"Just before The Nantwich game I was pleased to strengthen the squad with the signing of Bradford Park Avenue striker Tom Greaves. Coming so soon after the return of winger Astley Mulholland to the club, I see Tom’s signing as a further signal of intent that this club is going places this season.

"Tom is a player who will excite our supporters. He brings us extra support up front which we need and will be a valuable addition to the squad as we enter the business end of the season. Our fans will also be crucial as we start the run-in and I have to say that the support we had at Nantwich on Saturday was fantastic.

"Our fans swelled the gate to over 1,000 and it really made a difference. Like in the past two seasons, I expect us to mount our traditional new year push for promotion and our supporters will play a crucial part in that. I’ve often said that they are our 12th man and this will certainly be the case when we play our first home game of 2013 this coming Saturday against Stafford Rangers.

"Your vocal support really does make a difference and can help power us to three points against Stafford Rangers and put our drive for promotion well on track. See you at Gigg on Saturday!"
