Youth Draw at Chester

It was a real game of two halves for FC United’s youth at Chester. The reds were dominant in the first half, racing into a three nil lead. The home side turned things around in the second half, bringing the game level within twenty minutes. Both sides strived for a decisive goal without success and the game ended 3-3.

Chester did have the first chance with a free kick close to the goal line but just outside the penalty area on four minutes but the cross was easily caught by Ryan Barker, then within a minute the home goalkeeper was tested by efforts from Liam Ellis and Yousif Yousif.

After ten minutes the reds took the lead with a venomous long range shot from Mike Taylor who had been allowed to run with the ball from his own half. Quite how far out the shot was from was hotly debated with estimates varying from 35 - 45 yards. Mike suggested he would be happy to split the difference and call it 345 yards.

The second goal came in the 17th minute when FC were given a free kick just outside the Chester penalty area slightly to the right of the goal. Mike and Jon Poizer stood over the free kick but as the angle was more favourable for the left footed Poizer it was his shot that flew past the wall and into the net.

It was 3-0 after twenty-five minutes from a corner. Matt Musialowski and Daniel Maynard exchanged short passes for the former to cross into the box. Kial Callacher emerged to claim the decisive touch off a paintball bruise.

There were few further chances before half time but Chester were hot out of the blocks, pouncing a little too quickly for comfort on the FC kick off and storming up field to score within seconds. Within ten minutes they had made it 3-2 as a cross from the right was volleyed back past Barker from the corner of the six yard box. Just after the hour mark Chester were awarded a penalty and equalised.

It would be fair to say that was the end of the goal scoring but hardly the end of the game, almost ten minutes of additional time were played and for all the cautions it is worth noting that the Chester physio never once came on to the pitch.
