Dressing room banter a good sign, says skipper

Over recent weeks things have really been starting to gel for us. The results on the pitch obviously help but we’ve also got the banter going around the squad, which is important in any dressing room. When you’re having more fun, you are more relaxed and you tend to play better. That seems to be the case with us at the moment and we’re thriving on it and enjoying our football.

Of course, we can’t allow that relaxation to stray into complacency and we’ll need to keep focused with some very hard games coming up over the next few weeks. We saw that on Saturday in the win against Ilkeston where we kept plugging away right till the end. In the coming weeks, our preparation will have to be spot on and we know that the gaffer will see to it that it is. He won’t allow any slacking, but to be fair neither will any of the team.

We’re really enjoying playing at the moment. With two games a week for most of the rest of the season we’ll need to keep fit and fortunately we’ve been given a fitness and nutrition programme by our backroom staff. Eating and drinking the right things is important at any level of the game and at FC United we’re lucky to have good people behind the scenes to prepare us well.

What will also be important from now until the end of the season is the strength of our squad. Playing so many games in such a short space of time means that injuries will be inevitable and those who come into the side will need to slot in well so that we keep playing as well as we have been.

As I said though, the mood is good and we’re really up for it at the moment. We just need to keep focused for two more months and then who knows where we’ll be come the end of the season . . .
