Matchday programme: Past, present and future

With it being Youth United Day we have a combination of articles in Saturday’s programme that combine heritage, current affairs and the future progress of the human race.

This season’s Manchester United v Real Madrid European Cup tie brought back memories for three FC season ticket holders. In a lovely reminder of our roots and heritage, they tell their tales of the trip to the Bernabeu in 1968, where the reds booked their place in the final, before going on to famously beat Benfica.

Back to the present day and we are pleased to reveal that our current midfield maestro Oliver Banks is given the player profile treatment in this issue, as Wayne Clark finds out what makes him tick and why he loves FC United.

As for the future, we have an interview with United fan Chris Basiurski of the Gay Football Fans Network, who talks about the problems with homophobia in football and his experiences - and most importantly how we can make this become a thing of the past. Chris is having his stag do at the match on Saturday, so say hello if you see him and his mates around and wish him well for his wedding to fiance James.

Added to this we have our regular FCUth page for the younger element, the usual match reports, stats, away team section and of course Meet the Owners. We also have some fantastic pictures, as always, from our very talented photographers.

All for £2 - the same price the programme has always been.

Spot our crack team of sellers around Gigg Lane and thank them for their efforts. They have overseen a very impressive season of sales, despite some testing conditions.

Remember you can visit the club shop website or Tom Stott’s excellent programme stall at Gigg Lane to get past issues. You can also purchase the pdf versions of this season’s publications from the website. Visit ’programme downloads’ in the ’programmes & binders’ section of http://www.fc-utd.co.uk/shop

Many thanks for your continued backing
