FC United ready for trip to Witton for Trophy tie

FC United travel to Witton Albion in the FA Trophy on Saturday afternoon, hoping to put Tuesday’s disappointing defeat to Skelmersdale behind them.

The Reds have been rocked by the news that winger-cum-fullback Jerome Wright is expected to be out for three months after breaking his arm on Tuesday and centre-back Adam Jones’ road to recovery from an Achilles injury will now be slightly longer due to appendicitis.

The good news is that midfielder Chris Worsley’s knee injury, which saw him limp off against Skem, is not as bad as first feared, and he is hoping to be back for the Stocksbridge’s visit next week.

Due to the raft of injuries, which also includes centre-half Charlie Raglan, manager Karl Marginson has signed former Bradford Park Avenue defender Amjad Iqbal.

Margy believes that the Pakistan international, who has played against FC United on numerous occasions, will add some needed experience to the defence.

Looking ahead to Saturday’s match, Margy said: "We want to progress in the Trophy and we’re aiming to win the competition. Hopefully, a good cup run can get the players’ confidence back up and help with the league form too."

Margy added: "The supporters’ response on Tuesday was phenomenal and the players talked about it at training. They want to thank the supporters for it and it’s good to see everyone united at this moment in time. Hopefully, we’ll start delivering the kind of results that that kind of backing deserves."

Get yourself to that football ground and as ever; get behind the lads.
